About JP Barthelemy

I work as a Front End Engineer at Amazon and as an Instructor for The Coding Boot Camp at UCLA Extension. My background in software started in 1999 when I took an intro to computer programming with C++ course at NYU Polytechnic University. I was in high school at the time and really enjoyed programming. When I eventually gave coding a shot again a few years later, I realized I had a knack for it and enjoyed the thrill of creation. I spent the better part of the last decade immersing myself in the most challenging problems I could find, which led me to meeting Kyle Simpson, a JavaScript legend and far better teacher than I’ll ever be. I asked him what it would take for me to get to his level. His advice was to teach. Working with my students and TAs at UCLA Extension has been one of the greatest learning experiences of my life. I find myself constantly challenged and inspired by their diverse learning styles, personalities, and sheer brilliance. I wish I was that smart when I started out, but thankfully even better programmers than me will shape the future of the web.
